Burp! Asian Food Gallery @ Bangsar Shopping Centre (Invited Review)

Whenever you think of food court, the first thing that comes to your mind might be food in cheap price. What if I told you that, now, there is a food court where you not only get to have cheap food in a clean, cozy and air conditioner area, but also:

1. A touch screen menu where you can browse through and look for the food you want and headed straight to the stall for food ordering. Save your time for wandering around thinking what to eat, with stomach getting hungrier.
2. A handphone charging stations, where you can get your handphone charged for FREE.
3. Television shows as entertainment while having your meal.
4. Wifi access. For those who can't live without internet. The good thing of Wifi here: no password is needed.
5. Board games and play area for kids. A cabinet full with all sorts of board games where you can pick and play with. No rental fees required, no time limitations, just register with the staff at counter.

And the place having all these facilities is Burp! at Bangsar Shopping Centre!

Bangsar Shopping Centre is unveiling its first ever Asian Food Gallery, Burp! which is more than just a food court in a shopping center. Burp! is a contemporary Asian food court, furnished with modern interiors that exude a cosy and warm ambience altogether. With steel in dark colour and rustic wooden finish, the 11600 sq. ft. spacious area can accommodate up to 400 customers and houses 9 restaurants.

Added to it, Burp! introduces BURP Passport card, which is a card where you can use while ordering, very similar as Marche in The Curve. What you need to do is just:
1.Give your card to the respective food stall while placing order.
2.They will swipe the card and give you a receipt. Amount you spend will be recorded in the card.
3. Wait for your food, and enjoy.
4. Pass the card back to the counter and pay the total when you leave.

This unique payment system is very convenient as it saves the hassle of on-the-spot payment when you are in a family outing with hands holding little ones, looking for purse in handbag especially for females, digging for small change, and providing a faster moving queues at stalls.

That night, we sampled an array of local Asian delicacies from Burp! Food Gallery.

Asam Laksa from the Penang Stall. (RM7.90)
The laksa was lavishly loaded with rice noodles, assam fish and garnished with onions, pineapple, cucumber and mint leaves. The spicy and sourish fish broth made this bowl of laksa truly addictive.

Rojak from Nasi Kandar Stall. (RM5)
The rojak had cubed bean curd, bean sprouts, turnips, cucumber and egg mixing with rich peanut infused gravy, perfect for a light lunch or as snack for sharing.

House Special Udon from Japanese Stall. (RM6)
Tossed the udon lightly with Japanese soy sauce, and slurped in a mouthful of udon with half boiled egg and chopped spring onion, you would agree with me this was a simple but delicate delicacy. Not to forget, the stall is run by Marufuku Udon, who is famed for their delicious udon.

Chicken Katsu Udon from Japanese Stall. (RM10)
For those who prefer a more complete meal, he/she can opt for this chicken katsu udon served with crispy panko, breaded chicken, greens and topped with spring onions. Breaded chicken was meaty, crispy and not oily at all.

Kaarage from Japanese Stall. (RM3)
This is the Japanese style chicken nugget with its deep fried crunchy outer layer.

Tomyam Soup Served in Coconut from Thai Stall. (RM10.50)
This tomyam soup served in coconut is actually originated from a Thai Kopitiam restaurant located at Jalan Kuchai Lama. This authentic Thai dish comes with prawns and squids served with tomyam soup inside a coconut.

Curry Noodles. (RM7.90)

Nasi Lemak from Malay Stall. (RM6.80)
This is one of the famous dish among Malaysian and it comes with fried ikan bilis, nuts, sambal, half-full boiled chicken egg and rendang.

Nasi Lemak.

Roasted Chicken Rice. (RM9.80)
An authentic Hong Kong chicken rice served with golden roasted chicken.

Mee Goreng Mamak. (RM6.50)

Sizzling Mushroom Chicken Yee Mee. (RM7.90)
A sizzling hot plate dish of yee mee noodles with chicken, mushroom and vegetables.

Satay. (RM13.50 for 10 sticks)
The satay was nicely grilled, smoky and nice in flavour, taste better with the thick, sweet and little spicy peanut gravy. But I still prefer satay with some charred bits. =)

Ice kacang.
As the stall was closing by the time we ordered this ice kacang, most of the ingredient were ran out. So we ended up having this simplified version of ice kacang that had no toppings but only drizzled with some colourful syrup.

Very refreshing orange juice and watermelon juice to quench out thirst after the meal.

Condiments in Korean Family Seat.

Croquette. (RM6.00)
Croquette is decent, with crunchy outer layer and soft filling.

Thai Fish Cake
Famous as a Thai appetizer, or usually named as Tod Mun Pla, this little flatten ball shape fish cake make a good snack with the dipping sauce.

Hot plates used in Bar.B.Q Plaza are specially customized, with hot plate at the center for grilling and side area for soup. Some may find that the soup area was too small, but according to the Bar.B.Q Plaza One Utama outlet manager, the soup area is specially designed in that narrow size to lock the sweetness of meat and vegetables in the soup.

Also, there are "how to cook" steps suggested by BBQ Plaza:

Step 1: Pour in chicken stock around the hot plate and grease the lard on the hot plate. Place the vegetables in the soup.
Step 2: Proceed to grill the morsels of meat and seafood on the hor plate.
Step 3: The beef are ready to be eaten when it turns light brown, avoid over cooking as it will affect the tenderness of beef.
Step 4: For other meats and seafood, cook until they turn golden brown.
Step 5: In order to enhance the sweetness of the soup, add more vegetables continuously.
Step 6: Lastly, you may place the udon noodles into the full flavour soup and cook for 30 seconds.

Besides the set,  do order some other popular side dishes in Bar.B.Q Plaza to accompany the meal.

Fried Bacon Roll. (RM7.50)
Bacan strip rolled with enokitake, asparagus and deep fried. The bacon roll is undeniably porky, sinful, complemented by the fair taste of vege to reduce greasiness.

Som Tam with Soft Shell Crab. (RM8.90)
Shredded green papaya and carrot marinated in lime juice, further tossed with spicy crushed peanuts, and topped with pieces of deep fried soft shell crab. A beautifully done Thai salad that is so appetizing, a bite of soft shell crab followed by a mouthful of salad is so delightful.

Grilled Marinated Pork Belly. (RM6.90)
Hot-off-the-grill, this grilled marinated pork belly is full flavour from marinade, oozing with juiciness in each bite.

Fried Rice
Want to have a fuller meal? Opt for their speciallity-garlic fried rice. A little buttery and garlicky in taste, the rice is fluffy and will be loved by those who has a heavy taste.

Fried Chicken Wing with Lemon Grass. (RM7.90)
Flavoured with a scent of lemon grass, the fried chicken is delicious in its own way.

Parent's Day Treat @ Imperial Garden Restaurant (Invited Review)

Both Mom and Dad never failed to provide mutritious meals on the table throughout our growing up years, so this Parents' Day Tai Thong Group is offering a way to appreciate our parents by treating them to a feast that is worthy of their love and devotion.

Beginning 5th May until 17th June 2012, the chefs at Tai Thong restaurants will be firing up the kitchen and serving some of the best Chinese and Cantonese dishes such as Braised Superior Shark's Fin Soup with shredded Abalone and Dried Scallops, Roasted Pigeon, Steamed Turbot Fish and more.

There will be four Parents' Day set menu ranging from RM438++ per 6 persons and RM688++ for 10 persons. Each set menu comes with a complimentary bottle of house pour red wine, while those who purchase the menu for 10 persons can enjoy the complimentary red wine plus six cans of chilled beer.

For a fancier meal, Tai Thong's signature roasted suckling pig will be available for half the usual price at RM160 (usual price is RM320).

Let's get your eyes wide opened with Tai Thong's Parents' Day Set Menu:

This Five Happiness Platter comes with five different dim sum- like dishes.

Following the Five Happiness will be the tummy warming shark fin soup. Tasting so rich and wholesome with the subtle sweetness from shredded abalone, dried scallops, and shark fin's, this soup is excellence, needless to say.

Palm size pigeon perfectly roasted to golden crispy finish, with juiciness locked in between, making the meat tasted so tender. An earthy and deeply satisfying dish that you would definitely crave for the second one after the first bite.

Unlike the normal steamed fish that usually comes in a whole, the chef creatively sliced out the flesh and arrange the deboned fish slices back into the shape of a fish. This delicacy not only eliminate the mess of eating fish, but also gives you an extraordinary taste along with mushroom and ham.

The fresh water prawns is lightly deep fried to lock the juiciness, and quickly stirred fried with special sauce and served to table with rice vermicelli in Casserole. Prawns are fresh, bouncy and juicylicious, with the sweet, sour and spicy taste interlacing each other, this dish is undoubtedly appetizing.

A very presentable dish with brocolli, stewed sliced Chilean abalone, fish maw, sea cucumber, mushroom and carrot, finished with a ladle of thick gravy.

Delicately absorbs the fragrance and sweetness from the lotus leaves, the glutinous rice is aromatic, and the taste is further enhanced with the essence from dried shrimp, mushroom and bacon bits. Served in individual mini portion, no greasiness will arise from this delicacy.

A very rehydrating, warm and healthy soya bean soup, with extra texture from the chewy glutinous rice dumpling and hasma jelly.

Osmanthus Jelly with Seaweed Jelly is served at the end of the meal.

Extra perks will be given to TT Card members when they order the Parents' Day set menus. For every order of the menu for 6 persons, they can enjoy a free bowl of Chilled Ginseng Jelly with King Red Dates dessert (worth RM18.80), and those who order for 10 persons can enjoy two free bowls. On top of that, a complimentary 'Gift of Wellness' voucher for either VibeFit Detoxification Therapy (worth RM300) or 50% discount on Illuminating Face Spa (normal price at RM250) will be given to TT Gold Card Members, and two 'Gift of Wellness' vouchers for TT Platinum Card members.
